The Making of Peugeot 208 GTI The Legend Returns WIZZ design directors Andy’s and Paris CG house Unit Image push their latest photo-real CG collaboration to a new level for this remake of a classic Bond-inspired spot from 1987. Except for the vehicle interior and the actors, everything after the :18 second mark is CG, including the transition shot from 4/3 to 16/9.

Matthieu Poirier, producer at WIZZdesign in Paris: “The main idea of the campaign was to create a spot as an homage to the original film directed by Gérard Pires for the 205 GTi Peugeot in the ’80s. “We had to imagine a new version that kept the mood and the feeling of the previous film, which was very epic to the audience at that time. We focused on the direction (storytelling, acting, styling) to make the new film current and fresh. We kept the same overall outline of the old 205 spot, but we updated the approach for a 2014 campaign. “The main challenge was to produce a film entirely in photo realistic 3D. No scenery, no helicopter, no bomber and no car exterior was filmed in the creation of this campaign.

“Every material, texture and movement required a huge amount of work to stay as close to reality as possible and every 3D camera angle had to be set up as if it were shot in real life. We also had to recreate the scene from the ’80s film just before the transition to the 16/9 format exactly as it appeared back then.” Schedule: “We were contacted mid June to produce the spot for end of September.” For BETC & Havas Dusseldorf Chief creative officer: Rémi Babinet Creative director: Vincent Behaeghel Creatives: Marcus Herrmann, Oliver Hilbring Stefan Muhl TV producer: Thibault Blacque-Belair Planner: Maria Galleriu Jean Allary Art director: Juliette Courty For WIZZdesign Director/photographer: Andy’s Producer: Matthieu Poirier CGI: Unit Image Post production: WIZZdesign Music: Gum Sound design: Olivier Ranquet
